In compliance with section 21 of TCC Act number 18 of 1993 and Tanzania Communications (Type Approval of Communications Equipment) Regulations of 2005, all electronic communication equipment shall be type approved before importation and/or use in the United Republic of Tanzania.

Benefits of type approving electronic communication equipment include prevention of interference in public communication networks, to ensure interoperability of customer equipment with telecommunications networks and interconnection between networks.

To obtain type approval for electronic communication equipment, the applicant, namely; equipment manufacturers, Importers, Distributors and vendors of communications equipment, should fill in application forms as available in any TCRA office or online at our website: www.tcra.go.tz, and submit the applications together with relevant information to TCRA Office (Physically or online to dg@tcra.go.tz) for processing. Finally, approved equipment is issued with a certificate.

TCRA is now embarking into a campaign to curb illegal importation of non-approved equipment into our market and therefore legal actions will be taken against those who will continue to sell non-type approved electronic communication equipment after 30th May, 2007
