1.Trends
of Telephone Subscribers in Tanzania 1995 - June 2007 |

By
30th June 2007, about 6.8 millions Tanzanians (at most) owned voice
telephone lines. This is an increase of about 9% from March 2007.
The mobile voice telecommunication leads the market by having more
subscriptions (98%) as compared to fixed line services (2%) as shown
in the table below. |

2.Growth
Pattern & Teledensity (Population Coverage) |

The
annual number of Tanzanian subscribing for a voice telephone lines
grows at an average rate of 41%. The mobile telephone number grows
exponentially at the rate of 118% while fixed lines grows at 6% |
|

|
In
terms of population coverage, about 17 out of 100 Tanzanians own
voice telephone line. This is an increase of 1% as compared to March
2007. The data further shows that majority of Tanzanian (83%) have
no telephone lines. |

Subscribers per Operators (2000 - June 2007) |
|
|
|
The
trend of subscription among operators over the period does not demonstrate
high competition. The Table below shows that Vodacom is leading
the market in terms of number of subscribers with half (50%) of
all voice telephone subscribers in the country. Celtel ranks second
with 28% of subscribers followed by Tigo (12%), Zantel (7%) and
TTCL (2%) |
